In ancient Italy, a newlywed couple might have their portraits made. That's not remarkable. But many were done full size in terracotta as lids for their future sarcophagus, the youthful couple smiling and relaxing for eternity. The shape of such coffins is wedge-like, reminding me of a slice of wedding cake. In our death-defying culture we rarely connect love and death.
